NAVLA is managed by a staff of volunteers who dedicate their time, knowledge, and experience to developing and maintaining the NAVLA program so that we can continue to offer resources, information and support to our members.
April Jones (Founder) - Owner, Advantage Virtual Assistant
April completed her A.S. degree at Iowa Western and her Paralegal Studies education at College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE, one of the top ABA-accredited paralegal programs. She has 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, specializing in areas including Litigation, Bankruptcy, Family Law, Intellectual Property, Business Law, Personal Injury, and Employment Law. Her VA practice also includes marketing and PR support as well as technical support including website setup and blog design.
In addition to her experience as a Paralegal, April also spent several years in the medical billing field as an ambulance billing supervisor where she received training in ICD-9 and CPT codes.
Aside from her work as a Virtual Assistant and founder of NAVLA, she also owns two websites, both of which offer articles and support - one for parents in co-parenting relationships, one for single moms who work at home. She also volunteers and contributes to the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Cindi Matthews - Owner, Paralegal Virtual Assistant Services
Cindi has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of the State of New York, as well as an A.S. in Paralegal Studies, Magna Cum Laude, from Manchester Community College, Connecticut.
She has over 30 years Paralegal experience in both the Private and Public Sectors of the business community. Her experience includes all aspects of corporate law, having worked in the Law Department of the Travelers Insurance Company, Hartford, CT; General Law experience for private law firms, specializing in Real Estate, Litigation, Probate, Corporations & Collections. Most recently her experience is in Legislative Regulations and Intergovernmental Policy in the Public Utility area of the public sector.
Cindi is an active member of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA); Central Connecticut Paralegal Association; International Virtual Assistants Association (IVAA); VA Networking and Manchester Community College Alumni Association.
Cindi is a past Board Member, Recording Secretary of the Wethersfield Junior Women’s Club (Connecticut). Connecticut Junior Women, Inc. is a volunteer organization of women with diverse talents who donate their time and financial and moral support for the betterment of their local, state, national, and global communities while providing opportunities for personal growth and leadership.
Laurie Mapp, Owner of Halo Secretarial Services
Laurie received her honors diploma in paralegal studies in 1993 and began her legal assistant career working for a sole practitioner with a general practice for approximately 3 years. Laurie then went on to work in a large lawfirm, working for both a corporate lawyer and a civil litigation lawyer. Laurie then began work with the Canadian federal government in a legal department specializing in tax litigation. Laurie is familiar with a broad range of legal specialties including civil litigation, family law, real estate work, corporate law and tax law. While on maternity leave after the birth of her third child Laurie decided to open her virtual legal assistance practice, Halo Secretarial Services, up for business.
